Few Baltic capitals offer this much architectural grandeur alongside such recent, weighty history.
Our take
We think Vilnius rewards visitors who give real time to both its beauty and its harder history. The Baroque old town is genuinely spectacular, but pairing it with a proper visit to the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights, and an afternoon wandering Užupis’ quirky streets, gives a much fuller sense of what makes the city distinctive.
